Ward reopens after C.diff scare

Queen Margaret Hospital
The affected patients have been kept in isolation at the hospital

A hospital ward in Fife which was closed because of an outbreak of Clostridium difficile has reopened.

NHS Fife said none of the seven patients who became ill have shown any signs of symptoms since Thursday.

A deep clean has been carried out of ward six at the Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline. The patients were nursed in isolation since the outbreak.

Medical director Dr Gordon Birnie said it was good that the infection did not spread beyond the one ward.

He said: "This is a credit to the vigilance and dedication of all staff involved, who responded promptly as soon as a problem was identified, and ensured that the enhanced cleaning and infection control procedures were strictly adhered to."
