Police appeal over city robbery

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was punched in the face and robbed outside her home in Edinburgh.

The 26-year-old was approached from behind by a man near the property on Dalgetty Street, in the Meadowbank area, at about 2200 BST on Thursday.

The man, who is believed to be aged 30, attacked her then ran away with her bag in the direction of Dalgetty Road.

She was taken to hospital where she was treated for head and facial injuries.

The man was described as white, about 5 ft 7in tall, with short dark blond hair and was wearing a white top and a jacket.

A police spokesman said anyone who saw the incident should come forward.

He said: "This was a cowardly attack on a defenceless woman who required hospital treatment as a result of the injuries she sustained."
