The Navy destroy the mine in a controlled explosion in the Forth

A World War II mine has been found off Inchkeith Island in the Firth of Forth.

It was discovered in the early hours of Friday morning during a naval minesweeping exercise by HMS Shoreham.

The mine is sitting on the seabed in a busy shipping channel. Forth Coastguard said it would be destroyed in a controlled explosion later on Friday.

Any vessels in the area will be moved away before the detonation takes place. A coastguard spokesman said it was found during a routine sweep.
