A collection of photographs for Vanity Fair magazine have gone on show at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
About 150 images from as early as 1913 have been displayed at the touring exhibition which is now in Edinburgh.
Albert Einstein, Charlie Chaplin and Jean Harlow are among the subjects featured in the collection, along with Arthur Miller and Madonna.
The magazine ceased publication in 1936 after a fall in circulation figures but was revived in 1983.
James Holloway, director of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, said: "It is incredibly exciting to be able to show this beautiful show to the people of Scotland.
"This exhibition should be one of the highlights of the NGS summer season programme."
The exhibition combines the early and contemporary periods of Vanity Fair's photographic history.
From the beginning, British, Irish and American authors were frequently profiled and their writings published in Vanity Fair.
Among the vintage portraits shown are the iconic images of HG Wells, James Joyce, DH Lawrence and George Bernard Shaw.
