Elderly man targeted by youths

An 88-year-old man has been knocked to the ground by two youths in what police said was a brazen, unprovoked attack.

The incident happened when the man was walking along Marine Drive, Edinburgh at about 1510 BST on Monday.

He was approached from behind by the youths who were on bikes, one of whom struck him. He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with cuts and bruises.

Police said the two were both about 14-years-old, white and were wearing tracksuit tops and bottoms.

A police spokeswoman said: "This was a brazen, unprovoked attack on an elderly gentleman in broad daylight.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time, and who saw what happened, to get in touch with police."
