Interest expressed in music firm

Administrators have closed Sound Control's internet and telesales arm

Several expressions of interest in buying the Sound Control music chain have been lodged, administrators said.

The firm, based in Dunfermline, Fife, was taken over last month with the immediate loss of more than 150 jobs.

Deloitte, acting as administrators, closed 10 stores along with the company's internet sales arm. They hope to sell the rest of the business.

Although no official deadline has been set, it is hoped a decision about the chain's future will be made this week.

Some interest

Sound Control sells musical instruments but has been struggling to compete against web-based retailers.

The group has an annual turnover of £50m and employed 338 people. It also trades as Media Tools, Turnkey and Soho Sound House.

Directors had made attempts to try to sell parts of the business before calling in the administrators.

Deloitte said there had been some interest in buying the company as a going concern, with some bids to buy individual stores.
