A 49-year-old man has appeared in court in Kirkcaldy charged with killing two of his children.

Ryan Thomson, who was seven, and his 25-year-old sister Michelle were found at Muiredge Cottages in the town on Saturday evening.

During his appearance at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Mr Thomson made no plea and was remanded in custody.

He is expected to appear for full committal next Monday.

He was discharged from Dunfermline's Queen Margaret Hospital on Monday.

He was taken to the hospital for medical treatment following the discovery of the bodies at Muiredge Cottages.

Ch Insp Andy Morris, of Fife Police, described the incident as "a terrible tragedy which has shocked the entire community".

Extra community officers were sent to the small town to offer support and reassurance to residents.

Police are also providing support to the family.
