The family of a young mother from Fife have described their "great shock" over her death and appealed for help in piecing together her final hours.

Sonya Todd was found dead in her flat on Stewart Court, Methil, on 21 March. Police believe she had been assaulted.

A 24-year-old man has appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court charged with murder but detectives are still trying to track her final movements.

Ms Todd's parents said she "had her whole life ahead of her".

Little girl

In a statement issued through the police, her parents Mary and George, said: "Her tragic, sudden death has come as a great shock to her family. It has also left her little girl without a mum.

"We will do all we can to support her daughter, Danni, now and in the future. We also hope that people in the community will do all they can to assist the police."

Det Insp Andy Girdwood said the last confirmed sighting of Sonya had been on the Saturday afternoon on Wellesley Road, Methil.

He said: "We believe Sonya may also have gone out in Methil or Leven on Saturday evening and are very keen to hear from anyone who knows her and saw her on that day. Any piece of information could be important."
