Second cable inspection under way

Inspectors are testing for corrosion on the cable

The second of the two main cables on the Forth Road Bridge has been wedged open to make way for inspectors to examine its thousands of wires.

They are assessing how much damage the east cable has sustained in the four years since it was last opened to be examined. Results are due in April.

Last week dehumidification equipment installed on half of the west side cable was switched on.

It is the first time such work has been carried out on a structure in the UK.
