Competitors make intricate carvings out of solid lard
A group of Scottish teenagers have swept the board in a contest to carve creative sculptures out of lard.

The three students, who are all on catering courses at Adam Smith college in Kirkcaldy, Fife, were taking part in the 'Works in Fat' competition.

The overall winner, who took the gold prize for her work, was 19-year-old Leanne Sword from Kirkcaldy.

The competition is part of the annual Hotelympia hospitality and catering conference being held in London.

Louise Ramsey, 17, took away the joint silver medal for her work while Gillian McLaren, also 17, was awarded a bronze.

The competition has been known to attract international interest with students taking part from as far away as the United States.
