A man who barricaded himself in an Edinburgh flat for 13 hours has been charged with abduction, rape and attempted murder.

Police removed Sean McKay, 40, from the Meadowbank flat after a stand-off which began on Wednesday night.

A 27-year-old woman was released from the flat an hour before police stormed the property.

Mr McKay, who appeared at Edinburgh Sherriff Court, was remanded in custody until a later court date.
