Meeting plan over asbestos scare
The block of flats
The flats were evacuated after workmen disturbed brown asbestos
Council officials are to meet with residents who were forced from their homes because of an asbestos scare.

Occupants of 12 flats in Inverkeithing were made homeless after workmen disturbed brown asbestos while attempting to replace a water tank.

Six of the tenants were quickly allowed back in, but much of the content of the remaining homes had to be destroyed.

Fife Council said it would meet the affected residents within two weeks to discuss what lessons can be learned.

Fife Council's head of housing, Derek Muir, has accepted that there are many unresolved issues.

An inquiry is already under way to determine the cause of the disturbance but the authority has now agreed to widen its scope to include the consequences of the move.

The Health and Safety Executive is also investigating.
