The new world Monopoly will feature 22 cities
People are being urged to vote for Edinburgh to be placed on a worldwide edition of Monopoly.

VisitScotland hopes the city will feature on the well-known board game in a bid to highlight the capital to potential new tourists.

More than 2,000 travel writers were asked to nominate cities and, out of the 68 chosen, the public are being asked to vote on the final 22.

Online ballots can be cast for 10 cities each day until 28 February.

VisitScotland's marketing manager for Edinburgh and Lothians, Kathryn Macdonald, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for Scotland's capital city.

"Edinburgh is a destination loved, not just by its residents, but by visitors from across the UK and the rest of the world who come to enjoy the city's iconic festivals and attractions, stunning architecture and vibrant bars and restaurants.

"We are sure that Edinburgh will be a popular choice to take a place on the global Monopoly board launching later this year and encourage everyone to take the time to vote for their favourite city."
