The Somnambulists exhibition was created from life and death masks
A unique exhibition of photographic portraits based on a collection of 19th Century death masks has opened in Edinburgh.

The Somnambulists consist of a haunting series of photographic prints, created by artist Joanna Kane, at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.

The pictures are based on the largest surviving set of life and death masks in the world.

The display, on show from Tuesday, also uses contemporary digital techniques.

The exhibition closes on 6 April.
