Fife Council wants 20mph zones mandatory in built-up areas
|
A campaign has been launched to encourage drivers in residential areas of Fife to reduce their speeds.
About three quarters of side streets in built up areas have been given 20mph speed limits by Fife Council.
The authority now wants to let drivers know that people caught driving fast in these areas will be prosecuted. The message will be displayed on buses.
The campaign's slogan is "Don't tear the heart out of our communities" and aims to encourage more street play.
'Common feature'
Chair of the transportation and environment committee, Cllr Tony Martin said: "Fife is at the forefront of introducing mandatory 20mph zones in our residential areas.
"They are a common feature now in Fife and this campaign will help raise awareness of the benefits that are to be gained from these zones."
The campaign was launched by children from schools in Lochgelly.
It will run on billboards, buses and on leaflets delivered to homes for a month.
