Police have carried out checks on a stretch of road a week after a fatal road crash in Midlothian.

Late on Friday night and early Saturday morning officers stopped and questioned motorists in Penicuik and at the Gowkley Moss roundabout.

A Ford Fiesta came off the A701 between Milton Bridge and Bilston at 0300 GMT on Saturday, 5 January.

Scott Wilson, 20, from Glasgow, who was a passenger, died at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on Sunday 6.

A police spokeswoman said: "We would like to thank the public for their cooperation this weekend, as some fresh information was received.

"We would still urge anyone who may have seen vehicles being driven at speed in the Penicuik area in the early hours of Saturday to come forward."
