Fourteen five foot trees will be judged by MSP Kenny Macaskill
Dozens of schoolchildren in East Lothian are battling to win a green Christmas tree decorating competition by using only waste materials.

Pupils from seven schools in Musselburgh will have their trees judged by MSP Kenny Macaskill who covers Edinburgh East and Musselburgh.

The free event at Eskmills business centre includes mulled wine and mince pies and begins at 1700 GMT on Friday.

Fourteen five foot trees will be judged with music from Loretto Senior School.

The UK throws away enough wrapping paper to cover 350,000 double decker buses at Christmas.

Primary and nursery schools taking part include Levenhall Nursery School, Olive Bank, Campie, Loretto, Musselburgh Burgh, Pinkie St Peter's and Wallyford.

Christmas trees have been donated by Dobbies Garden World at Lasswade.

Each school taking part has been given a set of eco friendly lights and a donation will be made on behalf of the winners to Children 1st by Eskmills.
