Plea after pensioner's bag stolen
A Good Samaritan who helped an elderly woman who was being robbed of her handbag in Edinburgh is be sought by police as a witness.

The 74-year-old was walking along Abercorn Terrace at about 2135 BST on Monday when she became aware of someone following her.

As she approached St Mary's Place the man grabbed her handbag and ran off into James Street.

The victim was approached by a woman, who asked if she needed any help.

However, she had left by the time police arrived. The woman is described as mixed race, with dark hair.

The mugger was described as being white, 20 to 25 years old, 5ft 7ins, with fair hair, and was wearing a grey top.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: "The elderly woman was obviously shaken as a result of this incident, and we are keen to speak to any witnesses.

"In particular, we want to speak to the woman who helped the victim after she had her bag snatched, as she may have information which could help our enquiries."
