Young drivers were targeted after three men died in one crash
Road safety teams in Fife have said they are disappointed that young people are still driving dangerously.

The police began targeting under 25s in August after three young men died in the same car on the B925 road between Kirkcaldy and Auchtertool.

New figures show that 285 road safety offences were committed by under 25s in the past six weeks. These include speeding and mobile phone use.

Officers said they would continue to focus on young drivers.

'Particularly disappointing'

Since the crackdown began, 86 young men and women have been caught speeding. That compares with 144 offences committed by people aged over 25.

Fife Constabulary's head of road policing, Chief Insp Alex Duncan, said: "Given that young drivers form a small percentage of drivers nationally, they account for a high percentage of our figures."

"The number of young persons being detected for offences is particularly disappointing, given the degree of coverage in the media," he added.

Ally Caird, 21, from Auchtertool, James Rankin, 21, from Cowdenbeath and David Rodger, 20, from Lochgelly were all killed when their Honda Civic crashed on 10 August.
