Police in Fife are appealing for information about an attack on a driver who was accompanying a doctor on a late-night visit in Kirkcaldy.

He was waiting in his car, while the doctor made a house call, when a man demanded medical drugs from him.

When the driver said he did not have any the man lashed out and wounded him in his stomach with a sharp implement.

After the Massereene Road incident, at 2300 BST on Wednesday, the driver had to be treated in hospital.

The attacker then ran off in a northbound direction on Massereene Road.

The driver was taken to Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline but discharged after treatment.

The attacker was described as aged between 19 and 25 and was wearing a three quarter length jacket, hooded top and dark jeans.

Detective Constable Iain Geddes of Fife Constabulary said: "This totally unprovoked attack was carried out by a violent and desperate individual and we are appealing for witnesses with any information to help identify the person responsible to prevent any further such incidents."
