A car driver suffered minor injuries when his vehicle plunged down an embankment and collided with a train.

The 23-year-old managed to scramble out of the vehicle before the collision at about 1815 BST on Monday.

No-one on board the train was injured in the crash, which happened near Kirkforther Bridge between Markinch and Ladybank stations in Fife.

The driver was taken by ambulance to Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline for treatment.

Passengers on the train were taken back to Markinch station in the undamaged carriages of the train, which was the 1712 BST service travelling north from Edinburgh to Carnoustie.

British Transport Police have launched an investigation and have appealed for information from witnesses.
