Woman and dog killed in collision
A woman and her dog have been killed by a car while walking in Edinburgh.

Jean Sweeney, 50, suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a blue Rover car on Milton Road East at 1525 BST on Sunday.

A fire service spokesman said the 48-year-old driver had to be cut free by firefighters and is being treated in hospital.

Three children inside the car were treated at the scene. Their condition was not thought to be serious.

The road was closed for five hours while accident investigators worked at the scene.

A police spokesman said: "We would be keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this accident."
