Call for community sports group
An impression of the new stadium planned for Sighthill
Plans for a new stadium at Sighthill have also been drawn up
A working group could be set up to review how sports facilities will be provided in the east of Edinburgh after Meadowbank Stadium is replaced.

A Labour group motion will go before councillors next week calling for the creation of such a body.

It would be headed by an independent convener and would feature representatives from the local area.

Protesters have complained about a lack of consultation on the demolition of the stadium or on its replacement.

Community living

The group would consist of representatives from a range of sporting organisations, as well as from the South East Sports Facilities Project Group, local community councils from east Edinburgh and Leith, Edinburgh Leisure, the city's Equality Forum and a councillor from East Edinburgh.

The group would consider what facilities should be included in a new local community sports centre to be built at Sighthill.

It would also review the different options for the provision of facilities at the current Meadowbank site.

The motion said: "Recognising that Meadowbank Sports Centre is much used by the community living in the surrounding area, it was also agreed that a new community sports centre will be built in the Meadowbank area.

"The council reaffirms the planning brief recommendation that the new community sports centre be built on the current Meadowbank site."
