More than 100,000 people are expected to attend Kirkcaldy's annual Links Market over the six day event.

A high-profile Fife Constabulary operation will be in place from its first day on Wednesday.

The officer overseeing the large-scale policing operation said they would crack down hard on anyone misbehaving and spoiling the event.

There will be an unprecedented range of CCTV cameras as well as mounted police in the area.

We won't allow an unruly minority to spoil the fun for the majority of law-abiding visitors

Supt Tom Ewing, of Fife Constabulary, said: "As in previous years we are encouraging people to visit Kirkcaldy to enjoy themselves at the Links Market.

"But we won't tolerate anyone who is rowdy, drunken or in any way disruptive.

"As part of the police operation we will have special Time2Act officers on hand on the lookout for youth disorder or underage drunkenness.

"We won't allow an unruly minority to spoil the fun for the majority of law-abiding visitors."

Stopping buses

Supt Ewing added: "One new camera will give us an eye-in-the-sky view of events, while we will also be deploying our mobile CCTV van."

Fife Constabulary is also working closely with bus operator Stagecoach and officers will be stopping buses en route to Kirkcaldy to check for incoming troublemakers.

Superintendent Ewing said: "We will be boarding buses on the lookout for gangs of youths intent on trouble. Underage drinkers will also be on our radar."

There will be large-scale parking restrictions in the centre of Kirkcaldy for the duration of the Links Market.
