Gang go on car smashing rampage

A gang of teenagers who went on the rampage smashing several cars in Leith are being sought by police.

The group of eight hooded youths, aged between 14 and 15-years-old, were seen kicking and smashing cars with rocks in at least three streets.

Lothian and Borders Police said the gang started about 2240 BST on Saturday in Giles Street before travelling down Parliament Street.

They then threw rocks from a building site at a Mazda RX8 car on the Shore.

A police spokeswoman

A police spokeswoman said: "One witness saw a group of seven or eight youths aged between 14 and 15-years-old kicking and damaging several cars in Giles Street.

"The youths, who were wearing hooded tops and sports-style clothing, were then seen going down Parliament Street to the Shore where there is a building site and smashed another car.

"We received several calls following the incidents and our youth action team is making enquiries.

"We are trying to trace these culprits and would ask for anyone with information to contact us about these youths."
