A suspicious fire in the grounds of a mosque in West Lothian is being investigated by police.

Emergency services were called to the blaze under a portable cabin near the mosque on Craigshill East Road, Livingston, at 1210 BST on Sunday.

Police have described a man they want to question about the incident.

He was on the First Bus 212 at about 1135 BST and was wearing a red jacket and carrying a white plastic bag, possibly containing a petrol can.

The man was white, in his mid to late 30s, about 6ft 2ins to 3ins tall, of slim build, with short, mousey brown, unkempt hair, and was clean shaven with a long face.

He was wearing a deep red "Trespass" style waterproof jacket with the hood out.

The jacket had navy patches on the shoulders and possibly a horizontal navy stripe around the waist. He was also wearing faded blue denim jeans.

The man spoke with an Edinburgh accent as opposed to a West Lothian one.

An eyewitness saw the man on the bus after she got on at Broxburn.

Bus appeal

The 212 runs from Edinburgh (Waterloo Place) to Whitburn via Corstorphine, Newbridge, Broxburn, Uphall, Uphall Station, Pumpherston, Craigshill and Livingston Centre.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "An eyewitness has given us this detailed description of a man we would like to question about the incident.

"We would appeal to anyone who may have information about this crime or recognises the description of the man to come forward.

"He may have got on the bus anywhere along the route from Edinburgh until getting off in Craigshill.

"Crimes of this nature will not be tolerated."

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 01506 431200 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
