A woman is recovering after falling in front of a slow-moving train at Edinburgh's Haymarket station.

The 36-year-old suffered arm and head injuries when she became trapped under the Waverley to Dundee service at about 2315 GMT on Friday.

After emergency workers freed the woman she was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where her condition is said to be serious but not life threatening.

British Transport Police (BTP) said the fall appeared to be an accident.

Officers hope to speak to the woman about what happened.

The train was moving slowly as it came to a stop.

A BTP spokesman said the train was taken out of service and alternative arrangements were made for the passengers.

He added: "We would ask people on nights out at this time of year to take care and stay away from platform edges."
