Blaze sweeps across Arthur's Seat
Arthur's Seat fire
A fire last month left a large area of the hill scorched
Fire crews have tackled a large gorse fire on Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh.

The blaze, which was reported at about 2145 BST on Wednesday, lit up the night sky and could be seen by residents several miles away.

A similar fire last month destroyed an area of 3,000 square metres of grass and gorse on the landmark hill.

Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said they had received 81 calls reporting the blaze, but no one was injured.

Not suspicious

The fire was finally put out at about 2350 BST after more than two hours.

The cause of the fire is as yet unknown but is not believed to be suspicious.

Witnesses said the flames appeared to be on the south side of the hill.

Udo Seiwert-Fauti said: "I could see the flames from my office window."
