Franz getting lyrical at festival

Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy from Franz Ferdinand are to reveal how they write their lyrics at this year's Edinburgh International Book Festival.

The event will offer a unique insight into the stories behind their most famous and popular songs, in a first for the band and the book festival.

Tracks such as Jacqueline and Take Me Out have turned Franz Ferdinand into a musical success story.

The pair are due to appear on Tuesday 22 August at 1630 BST.

Franz Ferdinand have been touring across the world for most of the past year.

Alex Kapranos said: "We are looking forward to performing for, and talking to, the kids at such a great event. We might even give a few secrets away."

Karen Mountney, director of the children's programme at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, said: "The children's programme explores writing and creating stories in many different forms and this year we wanted to look at song-writing as a form of creative expression.

"We wanted to create a family event where young people could be inspired by the best in the business.

"Franz Ferdinand immediately came to mind and I'm thrilled that Alex and Nick have helped us to make this event happen by appearing in our children's programme this year."
