Baby girl for Lothian 12-year-old
A 12-year-old girl from West Lothian who is thought to be Scotland's youngest mother has given birth to a baby daughter.

The infant, who is now at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, is said to be suffering from breathing problems.

The family told a newspaper the baby stopped breathing moments after being born on Wednesday and is to spend the next two weeks in an incubator.

The girl remains in the care of social services.

The baby was born at St John's Hospital in Livingston but was later transferred to the ERI.

A NHS Lothian spokesman confirmed the baby had been born but refused to comment any further for reasons of patient confidentiality.

A West Lothian Council spokeswoman said: "It would not be appropriate for us to discuss details of this individual case.

"A multi-agency team is continuing to provide care and support."
