Parents accused of toddler murder
The parents of a two-year-old boy who died after drinking methadone have appeared at Haddington Sheriff Court charged with his murder.

Derek Doran, from Elphinstone in East Lothian, died in December last year.

Lisa Dodds, 25, and Derek Doran, 21, are alleged to have murdered him by administering methadone to him on 12 and 13 December.

The couple, who appeared in private, made no plea and were remanded in custody.

A second charge alleges that the couple culpably and recklessly administered methadone to the toddler between 1 September and 3 December last year.

Methadone is prescribed to heroin addicts as a substitute for the drug during rehabilitation.
