Rock falls from Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh Castle
The piece of rock fell from the west side of the castle
A three-foot piece of rock has fallen from Edinburgh Castle, forcing the police to close a road to allow safety officials to secure the site.

Experts from Historic Scotland have examined the rockface on the west side of the castle mount.

Johnstone Terrace will be closed until Thursday following the incident. No-one was injured.

A spokeswoman for Historic Scotland said natural erosion led to pieces of rock breaking off from time to time.

"Our rock squad have been and will continue to look into the issue to assess the best possible plan of action keeping safety and the interests of the local environment in mind," she added.
