Govan campaigners give thanks
![]() Delight at Govan after the contracts were announced
Politicians and union leaders have taken to the streets of Glasgow to thank those who supported the campaign to safeguard the Govan shipyard.
Govan MP Mohammad Sarwar and MSP Gordon Jackson were joined by key union convener Jamie Webster. Labour MPs and MSPs from across Scotland also supported the day's action, which came after the yard this week secured a £150m lifeline. The yard lost out on a major ferry contract but won an order to build two Ministry of Defence vessels.
Mr Sarwar said: "When we launched our petition for Govan, we received tremendous support for the yard in Glasgow and all over Scotland. "Some 80,000 people signed in support. We want to thank everyone who joined us in expressing total support for Govan." He added: "We have won a very substantial order and in Govan we are all delighted." Saturday's action took place in Govan and Shawlands.
