Butchers ham it up after Lotto win
Lottery ticket
The Lottery is now in its sixth year
Six workers from a Lanarkshire butchers could be ready to shut up shop after winning 20m on the National Lottery.

The syndicate all work at Robert Perrie's butchers in Lesmahagow and will each receive 3.3m from last Saturday's rollover draw.

The group includes Martha Perrie, her daughter, Rae, and her husband Walter Cross, Alan McSkimming, James Hunter and a female part-time employee.

The staff were slow to check their winning line and they did not find out the staggering news until Tuesday morning.

I hope the money brings them happiness.

Councillor Alex McInnes
But when they discovered their numbers had come up, down came the shop shutters, the door was locked and the winners went home.

A spokeswoman for the National Lottery said: "I can confirm we have had a telephone call from a claimant who has come forward with the correct numbers.

"We have no other details as yet."

The shop retains the name of Robert Perrie, although the founder butcher died some years ago.

Local councillor Alex McInnes said: "I'm delighted that hard working people at the butcher's shop have won. I hope the money brings them happiness.

"Walter's family were deeply upset when his father died three week's ago.

"Perrie's is an outstanding butchers which has served Lesmahagow and surrounding villages for many years. I hope the business keeps going, but the temptation to stop work will be very strong."
