Weather accident motorist named

Heavy rain brought flooding to the north east of Scotland

A motorist killed when his car crashed with a lorry during the heavy rain which swept parts of the country has been named.

William Cheyne, 66, of Crimond, died after the accident on the A90 Fraserburgh to Cortes road on Monday.

Grampian Police said it was thought the crash may have been weather related.

Meanwhile, rail services continue to be disrupted after heavy rain brought flooding to many parts on Sunday and Monday.

Trains from Glasgow to Aberdeen were terminating at Montrose in Angus and the Edinburgh to Aberdeen service was stopping at Dundee.

The wet weather caused problems for motorists across Scotland

A bus shuttle was taking passengers to Aberdeen.

There was further disruption on the rails between Aberdeen and Inverness, and some roads remain affected.

On this route, buses replaced the train service between Forres and Huntly.

Grampian Police urged drivers to take extra care in the wet weather.

The force highlighted there was a large amount of surface water on the A90 at Laurencekirk.

Torrential rainfall on Sunday led to widespread flooding as rivers burst their banks in Aberdeenshire.

Scores of people were forced to leave their homes in Huntly and Stonehaven.

Arbroath in Angus was left virtually cut off, with all main routes in and out - including the railway line from Edinburgh to Aberdeen - impassable.

Meanwhile, Red Cross volunteers have been on standby to help support emergency services deal with the aftermath of the floods.

Ten volunteers in Huntly were called on to help move more than 30 residents from nursing homes to the town's Jubilee Hospital and other evacuation centres.
