Scots swine flu deaths reach 29

Swine flu virus
The vaccine for the virus is being targeted at priority groups

Another person has died after contracting swine flu, taking the total of deaths in Scotland to 29, the Scottish government has said.

The latest victim was an adult from the NHS Ayrshire and Arran area.

Two other deaths - in the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Ayrshire and Arran areas - were reported earlier by health officials.

Scottish Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said all three had suffered from underlying health problems.

She urged anyone in the priority groups eligible for vaccination to accept the offer from their GPs.

However, she added: "The vaccination is being rolled out but please wait until you are invited before visiting your GP for the vaccine."

Most people with swine flu would experience only mild symptoms and would make a full recovery, she said.
