Annabel Goldie announced a series of new policies
|
Scottish Tory leader Annabel Goldie has warned the UK party's annual conference it must increase the number of MPs in Scotland at the next election. Miss Goldie said she was determined to help deliver a Westminster Tory win, by boosting the number of Scots Tory MPs above the current tally of one. The leader also announced new policies to protect NHS whistleblowers and encourage new business. And she branded Labour a "tired and failing" party. Miss Goldie said: "The Conservatives in Scotland are determined to play our full part in securing the change of Government we so desperately need, and let me lay it on the line - that means more Conservative MPs from Scottish seats.
"From the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway to the North East of Scotland, from East Renfrewshire to Edinburgh, more Conservative MPs is what I want. "The European election result told us we are winning again and winning in target seats right across Scotland. Miss Goldie went on: "Only the Conservatives can replace this tired and failing Labour government." The Scottish Tory leader also announced a series of new policies, including measures to support Scottish health service staff wanting to speak up about poor practices which compromise patient care. And she revealed details of a business dividend fund, which would see councils given a share of a cash pot if the number of new businesses created in their area exceeds a set target. The announcements came amid talks between Holyrood opposition parties and the minority Scottish government on winning enough support to pass its budget for the coming year.
