Robber brandished game controller

A man pretended a video game controller was a gun to hold up a store in Glasgow, a court has heard.

Steven Miller escaped with £315 after the raid on the Value store in Newlands Road last November.

The High Court in Glasgow heard he claimed he had a gun and was brandishing a knife.

His defence counsel said the "gun" was actually a handset for a video game played on television. Sentence was deferred for background reports.

The court heard property manager Miller, of Auldhouse Avenue, Glasgow, was caught because he left a fingerprint at the shop.

A few days later his fingerprints were taken after he was stopped for a motoring offence, and they were matched to the hold-up.

Defence counsel Geoffrey Forbes said: "He wishes to express his apologies for his conduct. The gun was a handset for a video game you play on television.

"He accepts that the shop staff didn't know that and it was a frightening experience for them."

Miller will be sentenced on 17 August.
