Sea Scot supplies shellfish to customers all over Europe

The future of one of Scotland's leading shellfish suppliers has been secured after the sale of the business to a major Spanish seafood company.

Sea Scot's sale to Marescot, a UK-based subsidiary of Maresmar, has saved the jobs of its eight employees.

The Isle of Skye-based company processes a wide range of shellfish before it is distributed by air to customers across Europe.

Sea Scot has continued to trade despite being in liquidation since April.

Launched in 2000, Sea Scot takes delivery from a fleet of boats that collects langoustine, prawns, lobster, crab and scallops off the west coast of Scotland.

The company then processes the shellfish at its three plants in Harris, North Uist and Broadford on Skye.

Commenting on the deal, Tom MacLennan of liquidators Tenon Recovery said: "The acquisition is excellent news for the company, its staff, suppliers and the local communities in which the business operates.

Jordi Cubells, chief executive of Marescot, added:" We are delighted to have acquired Sea Scot, which has an outstanding reputation in the shellfish industry for the quality of its products and track record on innovation."
