Strathclyde police arrested 68 drivers during the clampdown

A school teacher was found to be nearly twice the drink-drive limit when she was stopped by police on her way to work.

The 58-year-old was among a number of "morning after" motorists arrested during the first week of a festive drink-drive clampdown.

She was stopped as she drove to school in East Kilbride on 8 December.

Others caught included a disqualified driver in Lanark who was found to be four times the legal limit.

A total of 68 motorists were arrested by Strathclye police during week one of the four-week national crackdown on drink and drug-driving led by the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS).

In Glasgow, a car was detected travelling at 73mph in a 30mph zone.

When police stopped the vehicle, officers found four passengers, including a child, in the back. The 22-year-old driver later failed a roadside breath test.

In another incident, a 60-year-old man was seen driving erratically in the city's Fenwick Road, during which his car struck a barrier. The driver was found to be nearly three times the limit.

Another driver in Glasgow admitted smoking cannabis.

Assistant Chief Constable Jim Green said: "As the results show, fewer drivers than last year are putting themselves, their passengers and other members of the public at risk.

"But we are still concerned that over 150 motorists across Scotland chose to ignore warnings and break the law."
