Fake clothes man in court

Fake Nike goods were among the haul
A Glasgow businessman has appeared in court and admitted offering a huge selection of fake designer goods for sale.

Trading standards officers from Glasgow mounted a joint operation with Renfrewshire's environmental services investigators to catch Mohan Dulai in possession of the counterfeit items.

They estimate that if sold as genuine, the haul could have been worth as much as £275,000.

Dulai, 37, from Inchinnan, Renfrewshire, pleaded guilty to supplying or offering to supply:

  • 5,291 items of clothing

  • 641 compact discs

  • and 52 watches.

The offences happened while he traded from a unit in Govan Shopping Centre, operating as JS Fashion, and at the Bombay Cinema in Lorne Street, Glasgow.

Among the items seized in the raid in November 1998 were copies of goods bearing famous names such as Adidas, Nike, Reebok, Armani, Ralph Loren and Versace.

Dulai admitted offering goods to which a false description applied, contrary to the Trade Descriptions Act.

His solicitor, Joe Beltrami, asked the court for a continuation to allow full background reports to be completed.

Sheriff Isobel McColl deferred sentence until 21 June and ordered a social inquiry report and community service assessment.

Dulai was released on bail and told to return to court for sentence in three weeks' time.
