September 'dullest in 23 years'

Grey sky and sea
Grey skies were the norm in September

Last month was the dullest September since 1985, according to the latest weather analysis by a conservation charity.

WWF Scotland said Met Office data showed September was also warmer than average, and had been the eighth dullest September on record.

The charity said 2008 has had two months more than 2C warmer than average.

It added that it will "certainly be one of the warmer years in the records".

May was the warmest May in Scottish records, which go back to 1914, while February was more than 2C warmer than the long-term average.
