Barry Wallace's limbs and torso were found in Loch Lomond
The extradition hearing of a man wanted following the death of teenager Barry Wallace, whose severed remains were found 60 miles apart, has opened in the Netherlands.

Amsterdam's District Court of Justice will decide whether 36-year-old William Beggs, from Kilmarnock, is sent back to Scotland to face charges of abduction and murder.

Press, public and representatives of Strathclyde Police were excluded from the hearing.

A court statement said that, "barring extraordinary circumstances", a decision on whether to grant extradition would not be made immediately.

Instead a written judgment will be released by the district court in about two weeks' time.

Beggs' lawyer, Lian Mannheims, said before the hearing began that she would oppose her client's extradition to Scotland.

He has been held in Overamstel Prison since he was arrested in Amsterdam in December.

Chairman of the judges, Rob Blekxtoon, said the hearing would be held in private following an application by Ms Mannheims.

Extradition law

He said: "Dutch extradition law provides that as soon as a defendant requests for a hearing in camera the court has to do it."

Police launched a search for 18-year-old supermarket worker Barry after he failed to return from a work night out in his home town on 5 December.

His severed limbs and torso were found in Loch Lomond. His head was found on a beach in Ayrshire.
