The SNP will outline how to crackdown on crimes like robberies
Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill is to announce a drive for tough action against dangerous offenders.

He is also expected to outline a renewed approach for re-investing the profits of crime in local communities.

But Mr MacAskill will also recognise the last government for its work to tackle knife crime, increase victim support and reform the courts.

The plans will come as the SNP outlines its priorities for law and order to the Scottish Parliament.

Youth crime

Mr MacAskill is likely to pledge to build on the reforms of the previous Labour/Liberal Scottish Executive, while stating that jailing serious offenders is the right move to protect the public.

The SNP administration will also stress a commitment to preventing youth crime.

And it will set out plans to use the seized assets of criminals to expand the range of sports, arts and leisure opportunities available to Scotland's young people, particularly those living in communities hardest hit by crime.

The drive will include exploring a move to attract funding from key sporting and business players to add to the proceeds of crime money pot, with the aim of having a positive impact on youngsters' lives.
