Having stayed up until 2am watching the results - or perhaps I should say lack of them, I'm totally appalled at both the outcome and the manner in which the election was conducted.

In my own constituency of Stirling the Tories have been well beaten into third place, and all the indications were that it was a two horse race between Labour and the Conservatives.

Well, one has to congratulate the SNP for coming up on the rails and getting their vote out, although it appears that the turnout was much higher than elsewhere at 62% so I suppose an element of tactical voting has taken place.

However, a few comments on what I've seen so far.

A fairly typical response from the re-elected member for Glasgow.

Hotheads like that have no place in politics in my opinion.

Counter that with the responses from most of the SNPs, especially the guy who won Dundee West.

Good luck to him with his win and the fact that he can thank his fellow candidates given the circumstances of the recent loss of his mother during the campaign.

It's a regrettable fact of life that Scottish politics seems so entrenched in age old 'followings' and that the majority of people obviously vote because their Dad voted that way and his dad before him.

But 40% turnout and all these spoiled ballot papers! Don't tell me that that is democracy.

As I saw and heard from Brian Taylor the BBC Political Editor at Breakfast Time - Robert Mugabe would be a proud man to use the electoral process we have here in Scotland.

Mind you, given the global warming that's going on, perhaps we'll be growing bananas here in Scotland in the near future too.
