What the Scottish papers say
The Herald reports that Gordon Brown officially launched his campaign to follow Tony Blair into No 10 Downing Street with a promise to deliver a new style of government.

The Press and Journal says Mr Brown outlined his vision for a "humble" government at Westminster and a pact was signed that paves the way for Alex Salmond to become First Minister.

The Courier tells how hundreds of well-wishers queued round the block to join a vigil at St Andrew's Cathedral in Glasgow for missing girl Madeleine McCann.

Kate McCann looked haunted as she prepared to face her kidnapped daughter Madeleine's birthday, according to the Daily Record.

The Scottish Sun says Madeleine's family will hold a special birthday party.

The anguish of the missing toddler's family is also covered by the Scottish Daily Mail and the Scottish Daily Express.
