Smoking ban debate in Scotland
The ban on smoking in enclosed public places came into effect on the morning of 26 March, 2006.

Here interested parties supporting and opposed to its introduction give their assessment of how it has worked.

Health Minister Andy Kerr has heralded the smoking ban as a matter of pride. Mr Kerr said it makes Scotland a better country.

The Freedom Organisation for the Right to Enjoy Smoking Tobacco claim the ban has been a blow against choice and civil liberties.

Tobacco control group Ash Scotland say the air quality in Scotland's pubs, bars and clubs is a testament to the ban's success.
