Recycling awards finalists named
|
Changeworks is nominated for projects including can recycling
|
Leading community recycling companies and local authorities across Scotland have been nominated for an award scheme that recognises their work.
Organised by the Community Recycling Network for Scotland (CRNS), the More than Recycling Awards winners will be announced on 14 March in Perth.
The awards are in three categories - CRNS member of the year, innovation and partnership with a local authority.
Finalists had to demonstrate financial sustainability and social benefits.
The CRNS member of the year finalists are:
- Alloa Community Enterprise, in Clackmannanshire, which runs a multi-material community kerbside collection, a furniture recycling project and a repainting scheme
- BTCV Scotland Action Recycle, which runs a variety of community recycling projects including one re-using pet bedding
- Changeworks, based in Edinburgh, which runs an IT recycling scheme and promotes low-energy transport and renewable energy use
- Fyne Futures, a subsidiary of Fyne Homes, which runs the Bute recycling centre
- Wood Recyclability, a wood waste recycling project in Pitmedden, Grampian.
The innovation award finalists are:
- Changeworks for its Generous City project, which encourages the use of charity shops in Edinburgh
- Rag, Tag n Textile Collective for its textile recycling project, which makes sustainable clothing in Balmacara
- Re-jig, for its biodiesel project in Girvan, Ayrshire.
The local authority partnership award finalists are:
- Aberdeenshire Council for its assistance and management of a number of innovative and groundbreaking projects
- Argyll and Bute Council for demonstrating a commitment to partnership working
- Perth and Kinross Council for supporting charities and voluntary organisations, which provide practical training, work experience and employment to disadvantaged sectors.
