Three dead in separate accidents
Police have confirmed that three people died in two separate crashes in the Highlands and Renfrewshire.

Two people travelling together died following a two-car crash near the Grainish Junction of the A9 north of Aviemore at about 0745 GMT.

A 64-year-old man and a woman, aged 63, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Earlier, at 0100 GMT, William Wright, 32, from Erskine, died after his car hit a tree on the A726 near the Erskine Bridge Hotel.

Two people from the second car in the Aviemore accident were cut free by firefighters and taken to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

They are both being treated for serious injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.

Police are appealing for witnesses to both accidents.
