Oor Wullie sketches auctioned off
Oor Wullie
Oor Wullie has become a popular Scottish cartoon character
An autograph book featuring original drawings of Scottish cartoon favourites Oor Wullie and The Broons has been sold at auction for £1,500.

The pen and ink sketches were drawn by the legendary artist Dudley D Watkins, who drew the cartoons from the outset.

Earlier this year, a head and shoulders sketch of Oor Wullie fetched £950 at another auction.

Mr Watkins' work is highly collectable as publisher DC Thomson does not release its artwork for sale.

The result of the previous sale inspired the owner of the autograph book to approach auctioneers.

The un-named seller's father had asked Mr Watkins to decorate the album in 1943.

As well as Oor Wullie, there are drawings of members of the Broons family and Desperate Dan.

Mr Watkins started work with the DC Thomson in the 1920s and was one of the first of their artists permitted to sign his work with his own name.
